Overview

Trango Tower is a towering mountain, soaring to an elevation of 6,286 meters, situated to the north of the Baltoro Glacier in the Karakorum Mountain Range of Pakistan. It is renowned for hosting some of the world's most extensive cliffs and presenting climbers with exceptionally challenging rock climbing opportunities. Every year, numerous expeditions from around the globe converge on the Karakorum region to undertake the formidable ascent of this daunting granite massif.

The registration for Trango Tower climbing expeditions in 2020 is now open. Trango Towers represent a group of formidable rock spires in Pakistan. The towering peaks, reaching an elevation of 6,286 meters, boast some of the planet's most colossal cliffs and provide a playground for some of the most demanding rock climbing challenges globally. Climbing Trango Tower is considered a formidable undertaking due to a combination of factors, including high altitude, the overall height of the routes, and the steepness of the rock faces. All climbing routes here are exceptionally technical.

In 1992, the first successful climb to and descent from the East Summit was achieved by Xaver Bongard and John Middendorf, following "The Grand Voyage" route. This ascent paralleled the ill-fated Norwegian attempt and remains the only route ever completed up the towering 1,340-meter east-southeast headwall. These two climbs have earned a reputation as "perhaps the hardest big-wall climbs in the world."

The least demanding route on Great Trango is found on the Northwest Face, which was first conquered in 1984 by Andy Selters and Scott Woolums. Nevertheless, this remains a highly challenging and technical climb.
